This cultural tour explores the wonderfully diverse environment of Bhutan’s western valleys as well as their cultural heritage. Drive over high mountain passes and through rapidly changing vegetation from pine forests to hills covered in rhododendrons, magnolias and dwarf bamboo – abundant with birds and wildlife. This tour also visits ancient fortresses, temples, monasteries, farm houses and museums, National Memorial Chorten of Paro, Thimphu, Punakha and Haa valley.

DAY 01:  ARRIVAL TO PARO  AND TRANSFER TO THIMPHU

 After lunch, you will begin your sightseeing at Thimphu by visiting the Memorial Chorten. The memorial chorten was built by the Queen Mother of Bhutan in the memory of late Third King of Bhutan, HM Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. Today, the memorial Chorten is the center for all the devotees living in and around Thimphu for making offering of prayers and circumambulation.

Next, you will Buddha Point, Which is located on the ridge above Thimphu Town.  The road will take you through pine forest and finally to the giant Buddha statue overlooking the Thimphu valley below. Buddha statue was built in recent years for the benefit of world peace and prosperity. Then proceed to visit Takin Conservation Center, which is located in upper Motithang. Takin is the national animal of Bhutan. Besides Takin, the center also has other animal like deer. Sangaygang is located just above the Takin Zoo. The view of Thimphu Town is amazing from the Sangaygang.  Then proceed to visit Zilukha Nunnery, which houses the nun. You may attend their evening prayer and interact with them.  Later, towards the evening, you will visit Centenary Farmers Market, where farmers living in and around the Thimphu bring their farm products to sell at the market. You will see many people doing their business. If time permits, and if you wish, you will have free time to stroll around the Thimphu town for a while.

 

DAY 02:  THIMPHU – PARO (55 KM)

 After breakfast, you will begin your journey back to Paro. On the way, you will visit Tagchogang Temple, which is located on the opposite bank of Paro chu from the highway. The temple is closely associated with the saint Thangthong Gyelpo, who is regarded as the first iron bridge builder of Bhutan and also, the greatest yogis.

Then, you will proceed to visit Ta Dzong, the national museum of Bhutan, the beautiful cylindrically shaped building, formerly built as watch tower over the Paro Dzong, now house the historically significant national relic and artifacts for public display. Little below the museum is Paro Rimpung Dzong, the exemplary fortress which has the greatest wall paintings depicting the lives of Jetsuen Milarepa, the greatest yogis of Bhutan. You will take stone stair case down the Dzong, which leads to beautiful traditional bridge.

After lunch, you will visit Kichu Lhakhang; the oldest temple in Bhutan built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gyembo, along with other 108 temples in a single night to bring down the power of evil spirit existed then along the Himalayan Region. Later, you will have free time to stroll around Paro Town before settling into farm house for dinner. You will able to experience the authentic Bhutanese culture and traditions at household level. You can also enjoy the greatest Bhutanese hospitality.

 

 DAY 03:  PARO (HIKE TO PARO TAKTSHANG)

 After early breakfast, you will be driving to Paro to start you journey to one of the most beautiful temples in Bhutan – Paro Taktshang. Paro Taktshang is the only temple in the world, hanging on the cliff by the sheer force of faith alone. Though, to reach temple, you have to hike for an hour, but it worth every effort you make.

Paro Taktshang came into existence in eight century, when Guru Rimpoche, came to Taktshang flying on the back of tigress. Thus, the name came to be known as “Taktshang” translating “Tiger’s Nest”. Guru Rimpoche meditated at the place in the cave at the present location. On return, you will visit farm house, to experience the authentic Bhutanese living style and also to enjoy the Bhutanese Hospitality. You will get to experience the real Bhutanese culture and tradition at household levels. Later, you will return to hotel for the night hold.
